비사야스 지역의 대표 대학교인 UV(University of the Visayas)는 최초 세부(Cebu)의 비사얀 협회로 1919년에 굴리아스의 Don Vincente A에 의해 설립되었습니다. 2차 세계 대전 때 대학이 파괴되었으나 설립자인 Don Vincente A는 1946년에 세부 알가오에 대학을 재설립하고 1년 후 현재의 세부 콜론지역으로 옮긴 후 1948년에 세부 최초로 대학직위를 수여받아 비사얀 협회에서 UV로 개명 하였습니다. 그 때 이후로 UV는 대학입학시험과 대학원과정 신설, 체육시설 등에서 경의적인 발전을 이루었습니다. 최초 37명의 학생들로부터 시작된 UV는 현재 다양한 전공과 여러 캠퍼스등으로 나뉘어져 약 2만 9천여명의 학생들이 UV의 이름 아래 자신의 미래를 위해 공부에 매진하고 있습니다. 비사야 각 지역에 UV 산하 고등학교를 개교하여 비사야 지역의 교육 선도자 역할을 하고 있습니다. 현재 여러 캠퍼스들은 정부 서비스와 공공 행정, 법학, 기계, 건축, 약학, 간호교육학, 범죄학, 항해학, 컴퓨터 공학, 체육, 예술 분야까지 아우르는 종합 대학교의 위상을 지니고 있습니다.   UV Banilad Campus는 1977년에 오픈하여 GULLAS MEDICAL CENTER와 함께 치대, 약대, 간호대 등의 3개 학과로 약 800 여명의 학생들이 의료인의 꿈을 키우고 있는 캠퍼스입니다. 자체 외국인 기숙사를 보유, 다양한 국적의 외국학생들도 공부를 하고 있으며 비사야 지역 최고의 간호사 시험 합격생을 배출하고 있어 자국민들에게 큰 신뢰를 받고 있는 대학교입니다. UV ESL Academy는 2009년 9월 UV의 대학교부설 인증을 받아 현재 한국, 일본인, 중국 학생들이 공부하고 있으며 UV의 학생들과 활발히 교류하여 강의실에서만 배우는 영어가 아닌 현지 대학생들과 봉사활동 등의 교류로 자연스럽고 즐겁게 영어를 배울 수 있는 환경으로 자리잡고 있습니다.

1919 The University of the Visayas was founded by the late Don Vicente Gullas as the Visayan Institute (V.I.) in Cebu City. 1935 Visayan Institute now called the University of the Visayas moved to its present site in Colon St. 1940 First to conduct night school class for working students in Cebu City 1948 ● The Visayan Institute was conferred a University status by the then Bureau of Private Schools, the first to become a University in Cebu. The Visayan Institute was renamed as the University Of The Visayas. ● Expansion of UV's baccalaureate and post graduate courses 1980 From an initial enrollment of 37 students and only a high school department, the University’s enrollment peaked at 29, 000 students 1981 Don Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital in Banilad was established 2002 The College of Nursing moved to the new Gullas Medical Center in Banilad, Mandaue City. It boasts of new facilities to cater to the growing demand of nursing education. 2003 Expansion and development of UV-Gullas' facilities and a four-storey building was constructed together with the improvement of the Don Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital which serves as a training-ground for students. The development has attracted many students and its population is increasing every year. PRESENT The University of the Visayas has grown into an eight-campus.
